The Roadkill Series
Animal rights activists sometimes use gruesome imagery to activate a viewer’s emotional connection to animals in order to advocate for the end of animal suffering.
The Roadkill series is one of my early attempts to explore how one might show “connection” differently.
A collision between an automobile and an animal can be seen as a violent connection.
The series shows a reversal of fortunes whereby the human is the “roadkill” and the animal, my two Irish Setters, are the disinterested witnesses.
I like to think of the Roadkill Series as a mildly humorous somewhat disturbing reminder that we are all animals.
